God’s Principles for Productivity in your Life
By Peter Salemi
Many say that if someone wants to be successful you must find someone who is good at success and productivity, to emulate and model your business after them. This to a certain extant is true. However people are just that people-they make mistakes. Also, what works for them might not work for you. Successful people often have well-documented failures too.
But where is history can you find a business model that works no matter what business you are in-universal principles that are set in motion where you cannot fail? The most successful one of all-God’s model for success! God is the most productive entity in the universe! And God has laid down his success formula in the book of Genesis!
The First Thing God tells us…
What is the first thing God tells us about him? Not that he is great, or that he is love, or omnipresent etc.… No! The first thing he reveals to us is, “In the beginning God created…” (Gen 1:1). God reveals himself as Creator! Why is this important? The reason is, God created us in his “image” and “Likeness” (Gen 1:26), so we are like him as creators!
Creation is:
· Creation-The universe and everything in it (planets, stars, earth, water, trees, plants etc.…).
· Creatures-Animals, sea creatures, birds, insects etc.…
· Creators-Man to create from the finished creation to be “fruitful and multiply” (Gen 1:28).
People in this world today are not happy unless they are creating something. When we are creating we feel fulfilled-why? For the simple reason, God created us in his image-with a piece of his creativity in each and everyone one of us. We are all creative in different ways be it with music, building, communicating, management, whatever gift God has implanted in inside us, it is there to use to create in this world!
In Genesis 1:1 it says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Now the chapter could have ended there but it doesn’t! The chapter goes on to show how God creates! Why? So when man creates he can emulate the same principles to be successful!
7 Principles for Success
The number one common denominator all super successful people have is, they focus on Intention and ignore distraction! Most people focus on distraction and ignore intention. One example: Sports. People are so obsessed with sports they will memorize statistics, foods and habits of their favorite players. People who do this are focused on the player’s intentions and it’s become their distraction. This is the player’s success, not the fans, and yet the fans are obsessed with the player’s success and it becomes a distraction where the fan is not focused to improve his own life, but lives vicariously through another. So this first principle is intention; and this is the first thing we see God do!
1. Intention-“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” The first thing we see God do is his intention to create. Here God has an aim, a goal to achieve and commit to a course of action. To establish a connection between him and his children and to spread heavenly culture on earth so man can be “fruitful and multiply.”
2. Disruption-What always follows intention is disruption. Notice, “And the earth was without form, and void.” (Gen 1:2). When you create the first thing that always shows up is something hard. This is where most people stop and that’s the wrong thing to do. When something hard shows up it does not mean you are doing something wrong; it actually means you are going in the right direction. When you start a business you don’t make money first, you spend money first! Disruption always follows intention!
3. Inspiration-“And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” (Gen 1:2). When disruption happens seek inspiration. Read the Bible! Read books that help you learn whatever it is that you are creating be it a business, a product etc.…Get inspired to make you feel like things will get better. Listen to success coaches, or music. Music is a great motivator for people who have the intention to be fit, and get into shape. Listen to audios with word affirmations. If you want to be a tree (symbolic of being fruitful and prosperous Psalm 1:3 Isaiah 61:3); a tree grows both ways. A tree grows downwards before is grows upward and produces its fruits. So make sure your roots are deep and strong (skills and wisdom you learned) so all the nutrients go to your branches so great fruit can be produced. The better the tree below ground, the better the tree above ground. Successful people always learn and read continually. Elon Musk sets aside 3 hours a day just to read books and articles so he is continually informed. Leaders are readers!
4. Illumination-“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Gen 1:3). Learn new truths you did not know before. Gaining knowledge or insight is like a light being turned on in your mind. Use your mind to see, not your eyes. A lack of knowledge is a form of darkness spiritually speaking. The gap between poverty and success lies between what you know and what you don’t. If you know better you could do better! Learn new truths from the inspiration of scripture, and anything else that does not contradict it. The Bible is like the deep blue sea its truths are endless!
5. Recognition-Recognition is a part of productivity. “And God saw the light, that it was good:” (Gen 1:4). Many people aren’t doing better because when they do something good, they don’t stop and celebrate it. When you have a win, take the time with the people who helped you to celebrate the win! “And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God… Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.” (Eccl 3:13; 5:19).
6. Distinction-“and God divided the light from the darkness… And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night” (Gen 1:4, 5). What separates you from other businesses, coaches, instructors, whatever the case may be? God distinguishes himself among others. He says, “For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?” (Psalm 89:6). If he does it, then so should we! God created distinctions. What separates you from the rest? When people ask what you do how do you answer? Remember, when people ask you “what you do?” There are really asking “what can you do for me?” When you answer, don’t just state what you do, but tell them what you can do for them-There has to be distinction:
· First be measurable-Give them a before and after situation. Tell them, “Before me this is your situation; after me you will have this.”
· Second be desirable-Describe to them the outcome they desire to have.
· Third be stateable- Express clearly in words what you do so they can understand easily and back it with facts, testimony etc.…
7. Preparation for Execution-Always prepare the night before for tomorrow’s work. “And the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Gen 1:5). Notice the scripture says the “evening and the morning” not the “morning and the evening.” The calendar and the days counted by the Hebrews were sunset to sunset. So when God was creating, he is showing us here to prepare the night before, for the following day to execute your plans. Preparing is also part of the creating process. And this does not stop with just the day-last week should be preparation for this week, last month for this month, last year should be preparation for this year, and last decade should be preparation for next decade. We also see segmentation to completion. God didn’t save any of today’s work for tomorrow-he got today’s work done today and tomorrow’s work done tomorrow. Do not overload your schedule or one will be overwhelmed. Jesus spoke of this in (Matthew 6:34).
If one implements these automatic success principles from Genesis chapter one, a person cannot fail. So let’s go out to create the things he created us to create so we can be as productive as possible.
